Gender Awareness Begins at Birth
June 09, 2017
This is an issue am so careful about because it seems the society is comfortable with the existing gender norms. They whisper and support Gender equality in their corners and in meetings concerning women empowerment and rights. However they stand up from their meetings and continue in existing norms of ; Alpha male , Violence, Stereotypes and prejudice. It not them, its the society and people tend to be carried away and live as the society dictates. Norms Like; blue for boys and pink for girls, a woman should not be too loud, she should wear some certain dresses, a woman must not be too ambitious, she should get married and be with her husband. I must confess that i too sometimes am carried away by the dictates of gender norms, however subconsciously am aware of them and i try to correct them or do well. Someone said to my girl, 'sit properly like a girl and eat like a girl' and i replied, 'tell her to sit properly and eat properly not to make her feel girls are supposed to withdraw and act a certain way'.

Menstrual Hygiene Day
May 25, 2017
Did you know that 28th May is the World's Menstrual Hygiene Day? it is actually a day set up to educate girls about menstrual hygiene and to advocate for the right of girls to have proper menstrual hygiene facilities both in schools, at home or in the community. This might cross our minds as unnecessary but you have to be a girl or a woman to understand what menstruation is about, you've got to experience a day of it, to understand the importance and the emphasis today should have. That's why one of the objectives set aside for the day is to not only educate girls about this but also boys and male teachers.

Gender gaps in Education in Nigeria
May 12, 2017
Gender gaps in Education in Nigeria is an issue of concern for development actors like the United Nations (UN), FGN( Federal Government of Nigeria) in partnership with other NGOs and INGOs. The need for boys and girls to rise above redundancy and mediocrity for the effective development of our Nation cannot be overemphasized. However, the plight has been that more boys get into schools than girls particularly in Northern Nigeria . In the south- east region of the Nation, boys are also seen to drop out of secondary schools or not enroll at all, in pursuit of businesses and other ventures that can fetch them money early in life. While some parts of the country can celebrate gender parity in education, much needs to be done in general to close the gender gaps
