Welcome Readers!! My name is Jane Okoroji and this is my very first post on my blog. Before my MA. in Education, Gender and International Development, i have being intrigued by the interplay of gender or gender forces both in our society and the world at large. My masters program further opened my eyes to gender studies around the world particularly in developing countries.
We also cannot ignore the emphasis the then MDGs ( Millenium Development goals ) and now the SDGs ( Sustainable Development goals) have laid on gender equality in education and gender parity in Socio-economic development . For clarity let me post both goals;
MDG GOAL 3: PROMOTE GENDER EQUALITY AND EMPOWER WOMEN
Target 3.A: Eliminate gender disparity in primary and secondary education, preferably by 2005, and in all levels of education no later than 2015.
MDG goals ran from 1990-2015, in 2016 came the SDGs which would run from 2016-2030 and their goal on gender is;
Goal 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls . this they would do by
1.End all forms of discrimination against all women and girls everywhere 2. Eliminate all forms of violence against all women and girls in the public and private spheres, including trafficking and sexual and other types of exploitation 3. Eliminate all harmful practices, such as child, early and forced marriage and female genital mutilation etc.
This blog would attempt to draw out gender based issues in Nigeria through news, blogs, authentic stories etc (whilst giving credit to the authors). Also i would be dedicating a page to female heroes, so as not to dim the accolades of females. i promise to make it an exciting read. i would also share works that have been done by NGOs and INGOs to improve the subject matter. Employment opportunities that exist in such companies would be published too. This blog is would be informative and is for all who want to learn about Gender Expositions.
