Wives on Strike : An exemplary Depict of how Women can Change the Society

Have you watched the movie 'Wives on Strike' directed by popular Nigerian actress Omoni Oboli? I know its a 2016 movie but i just watched it some few months back, well blame it on the many Nollywood movies or the lack of time to view that much. However if you've not watched that movie, you are sitting on a very long thing. Some people might not like the movie, but if you want to sit back and laugh and learn a few things, this might be a must watch movie for you.

While the movie the movie is categorized as comedy (some even defined it as a hilarious comedy), there is nothing humorous about the teachings/ lessons from the movie. I rather see it as an awakening call, a movie that shows that women and men that are described as masses or non-influential , can effect the change they want starting from their environment. The movie saw four wives from a suburb coming together to stop the marriage of an under-aged daughter of one of the wives. The men preferred to mind their own business and stayed out the issue, however the women made sure to involve them by unilaterally agreeing to deny them their conjugal rites. So much so that when the wedding ceremony was set up for the girl, the women staged a protest to stop the girl from getting married .

This was how the girl was saved from marrying at her age ( i think 13 or so) , now the husbands became frustrated and decided to join into the protest to see if their conjugal rites would be turned , because even the sex workers decided to join the protest. The women became a force to reckon with. They were know nationwide and now had the support of the wife of a senator, who made sure the matter was further spread nationwide. From this singular act of these brave women, policies were enacted to stop child marriage. I can't help but link this to the kidnap of the Chibok girls , we were all carrying placards saying Bring Back our Girls. Some read Bring Back our Daughters. How many of us really felt the pain of these girls, how many treated them as if they were indeed their daughters? Now am not saying to deny your spouses their conjugal rites is the way. Am

just saying that collectively as women or men wherever you are in the society today, you can effect the change you want to see.
