G4G Initiative: UNICEF to Improve Access to Education for one Million Girls in Nigeria.
The first phase of the United Nations Children's Fund's ( UNICEF) Girls 4 Girls initiative ( G4G) would commence in Bauchi, Zamfara, Katsina, Sokoto and Niger States in Nigeria and it aims to enroll one million girls into schools in these region. These states were chosen as the pilot states because records show that they have the highest number of out of school girls in the country. The initiative seeks to empower girls and women with knowledge to be able to stand up for themselves, to stop violence against girls and also curb early marriages in these region.
The initiative would partner with the Federal Ministry of Education and Universal Basic Education Boards in the pilot states to empower girls to enroll in schools and remain in schools to complete their full education, in other to be role models in their communities. The G4G initiative would work with mothers and the girls to identify the barriers that hinder girls education in the communities and tackle them.
