Women and the "PHD Syndrome"

Someone told me women have "PHD Syndrome", while i pondered  on what that meant , she further explained that PHD implies ( Pull Her Down) Syndrome.  Ironically women are the architects  of their own issues. Laws made to bring down women in some traditional cultures are made by women. Sometimes they thrive by pulling each other down and continually focus on discussions of trivial things like clothes , hair-do, make -up or perhaps how to shop for the next expensive item. Using these as yardsticks for who is in their 'class' or who has attained the most,  who should be spoken to and who should be shunned.

Often times you overhear the conversations of men and it is about the next deal, the thriving  businesses , how to make ends meet etc. Little wonder men leave the trivial discussions for the women, or have you never heard a man say ( that one nah woman Mata).

A research was conducted recently in schools in Kaduna State Nigeria and  it entailed building self esteem in girls. When asked about their ambitions and goals in life most repsonses from the girls included  ( getting married and having children ) while that is not a bad thing  to aim for, it should not be the ultimate idea. To just get married to a wealthy man or at least  one that can provide and bear children,  without aiming to be better in careers or be the best neurosurgeon there ever was or the best president ever in Nigeria.

Now you wonder when there would ever be a Female president in Nigeria, blame it on the PHD syndrome, the trivialities and commonalities  of female discussions. Mrs Sarah Jibril  attempted to run for the post  of presidency  in 2007, while she was cheered on by members of her political party,  she ended up with only one vote which was hers. Now  I would understand if the male-ego did not allow any man to vote for her, but where were the females in the party,  well blame it on PHD Syndrome.

Women are left to raise a generation of boys and girls , and whatever happens to a child good or bad, the mum is assumed to be the one in the know. Please parents raise children that can build a better tomorrow. Raise daughters to be leaders of tomorrow, to  challenge  the norms and be the best.
